I Know My Redeemer Lives

We have just come through a beautiful Lenten season. We have walked with Jesus through Bethany into
Jerusalem with the praise and acclamation of the crowd ringing in our ears. We have witnessed the cleansing of the temple, and the confusing scene at the Passover Supper. We have taken the midnight walk across the old stone bridge to the Mount of Olives and Gethsemane. We have listened again to the crowd, this time screaming for a crucifixion. We have walked The “Via Doloroso” , and watched from a distance as the nails were driven and the cross was raised. We have heard again the words of Jesus across the valley of the cross, watched as the body was taken down. We have wept with the women and disciples, BUT we have stood at the entrance of an empty tomb! We have seen the grave clothes folded, and heard the words of the angels, “He is not here, He is risen”.

Listen to the words of the great hymn, “I serve a risen Savior He’s in the world today, I know that He is living whatever men may say”. Hear the words of George Frederick Handel as he echoed Job in Job 19:25, “I know that my Redeemer liveth.”
John wrote in 1 John 5:13, “I write this to you that you may know that you have eternal life.”
Know; not guess, not suppose, not wish, not wonder, but know.

“I know that my redeemer lives.” I am thankful for the ability to KNOW clearly and surely. There is no vagueness in the promises of God.
“I know that my redeemer lives.” I am delivered from the bondage of sin and the fear of death. I am free because I am possessed by one who has the power to lift me and hold me.
He is real to me, I know Him. His hand is strong, His voice is thunder, his heart is tender; He is my redeemer, and “I know that my redeemer lives.” How?   The great hymn ends,  “He lives within my heart.”
