The Peace of God Surpasses All
Election day 2018 is over. Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and Christmas is close behind. Talk shows, social media, and coffee shops are filled with discussions about the downfall and demise of our society. Two days before I wrote these words yet another mass shooting in California occurred.
Where is our hope? What is there to be thankful for? Why Christmas? What difference does Jesus make?
He gives us peace.
My understanding of experiencing peace on earth and good will toward mankind is that it is clearly a personal, individual peace that God lavishes on those who live in a relationship of surrender with Him. As He says in scripture, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you… Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
As we move into this season of Thanksgiving and the celebration of the incarnation, let us focus our eyes not on despair or the things that would distract us from Christ, but the things that attract us to Him. Lets not see how closely we can live to the values of the world before falling, but instead see how closely we can walk with Jesus so we cannot fall. I finish with one of my favorite quotes, “The secret of peace is the constant reference of all to the care of God.”
